Periyar Boatman, Periyar Tiger Reserve, Kerala. A boatman ferrying birdwatchers and other tourists across an arm of Periyar Lake near the tourist boat landing. As a part of an “eco-development committee” he benefits from tourists visiting Periyar to see and appreciate its natural history. (December 2001)
